2026… In the Beginning, God

Happy New Year!

I know I’m a little late to the party, but the year is still new—it’s only a week old.

How did you start the year?

Did you begin by revisiting the New Year’s resolutions you made? Have you already started taking steps toward making them happen? Or did you start by simply continuing as you were, because you don’t quite trust yourself to keep resolutions anymore so you decided not to set any goals this year, just to avoid disappointing yourself again?

Pause. Relax.

This is not another think piece written to make you feel guilty for not seizing the day or piling unnecessary pressure on yourself. I simply want to share something the Holy Spirit shared with me. I first shared this with the church I pastor, and I felt led to bring you into that moment too.

Start With God

This year, start with God.

Yes, it really is that simple. But let me explain.

The Lord took me to Genesis 1 and reminded me that before there was a beginning, God ordered the beginning to be. He is the Author of time itself. Not only did He author time, but He also created and ordered everything that unfolds within it.

Genesis 1:2 tells us that the earth was without form and void, and darkness covered the face of the deep. Yet it did not remain that way. The Spirit of the Lord hovered, and the voice of God went into action bringing light, creating beauty, and putting everything into order.

By the end of it all, Scripture says:

“Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.”

(Genesis 1:31)

What Makes a Year “Good”?

Do you want to have a good year?

What would make 2026 good for you? You could probably list a few things: answered prayers, progress, stability, joy, breakthroughs.

But here’s a gentle question: if you are a child of God, are you really Lord over your own life?

If not, then the One who truly determines whether a year is good is the Lord Himself.

So shouldn’t we begin the year with Him; following His lead, asking Him for His will for the year, and trusting Him to help us fulfil it? What ultimately makes a year good is not just what we accomplish, but whether we fulfilled the will of the Lord.

Plan, But Plan With God

I am not saying don’t make plans.

I am saying make them with God.

When you walk with Him, you live in the reality of divine possibilities. And even if you encounter dark or uncertain moments along the way, you will not walk alone. His voice will guide you. His light will shine on your path. He will bring order where there was confusion and beauty where there was chaos.

So as this year unfolds, whether you feel prepared or not, start where Scripture starts:

In the beginning… God.
